Republican and Democratic legislators are looking to reform the primary election process put in place by SB54 10 years ago.

Lyman argued that SB54 did not change internal party bylaws which say that if a candidate exceeds 60% at convention they advance straight to the general election without a "direct" primary election.

More than 10 percent of current senators first entered the chamber through appointment. Their numbers will soon grow.
