Russia has offered to make its fifth-generation stealth fighter jet Sukhoi Su-57 in India for the Indian Air Force, a Russian and an Indian official said on Tuesday, as Moscow looks to boost defence ties with New Delhi.

The Russian Su-57 and American F-35 stealth fighters come together for the first time at Aero India 2025. One of the key highlights is the presence of the Russian Su-57 and the American F-35 Lightning II together for the first time at an aviation exhibition.

Russia has proposed manufacturing the Sukhoi Su-57 stealth fighter jet in India, aiming to consolidate defence ties with New Delhi. This move, part of India's strategy for self-reliance, seeks to counter China's growing air capabilities.

Russia has 76 of these fifth-generation planes. Apart from India, Russia is also eyeing a deal with UAE for the combat jets.

The $80m American F-35 Lightning II and Russian Su-57E Felon have shared an apron at Aero India 2025 in Bengaluru, India.

India has long been a major customer of Russian defence equipment, with the country accounting for over 66% of country’s arms imports between 2000 and 2020. This long-standing partnership has positioned Russia as a key player in India’s defence strategy.

The biggest air show in Asia, Aero India, kicked off today at the Yelahanka Air Base in Bengaluru. The 15th edition of the air show is special because it features a rare sight.

According to the Defence Express portal, during the Aero India 2025 exhibition, the Russian delegation announced that its first foreign customer would begin receiving Su-57 fighter jets by the end of 2025.
