Tropical Storm Chantal formed off the coast of South Carolina on Saturday, June 5, as the National Hurricane Center warned of heavy rainfall across the coastal Carolinas. The center said tropical storm conditions could start Saturday evening and continue through Sunday morning.

Chantal is expected to move across South Carolina on Sunday morning. Its winds on Saturday were up to 40 miles per hour.

Although forecasters do not expect Chantal to become a hurricane, the storm is likely to dump several inches of heavy rainfall across the Carolinas.
