GRADY, Ark. – Arkansas State Police are investigating an inmate’s death at the Cummins Unit prison. Authorities said prison staff responded to a reported disturbance around 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday and found 31-year-old Dionte Gurley and another inmate in the middle of a fight.

Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders mobilized 140 guardsmen on Tuesday to staff 28 winter weather response teams. They will assist Arkansas State Police in transporting stranded motorists to safe areas.

Separate accidents this weekend in South Arkansas left three people dead, according to Arkansas State Police preliminary fatal crash reports. At 9:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, a head-on collision in rural Jefferson County claimed the life of an unknown driver reportedly traveling the wrong way on U.S. Highway 65 near Mile Road.

"I've been dealing with it for almost 20 years now, and they are getting more sophisticated," Denis Dean, senior prosecuting attorney for Washington County said.
