As the Super Bowl countdown begins, several eliminated teams are focusing their efforts elsewhere: finding and hiring new coaches.

Jerry defended the decision as the culmination of a “thorough, thorough process.” The Cowboys interviewed Robert Saleh, Leslie Frazier, Kellen Moore, and Schottenheimer. They created some buzz by making it known that they spoke to Deion Sanders and Pete Carroll, although neither was officially interviewed.

For some of those teams, that will involve finding new head coaches and/or General Managers. Three teams fired their head coaches during the season and two more have been dispatched as of 9 a.m. ET on January 6.

Cowboys formally introduced Brian Schottenheimer as the 10th head coach in franchise history late Monday morning from The Star.

Schottenheimer replaced Mike McCarthy, who recently departed after five seasons. McCarthy (49-35) led the Cowboys to the postseason three times, getting just one victory. McCarthy also produced three consecutive 12-win seasons.

Upon Saleh's return, the team continued making alterations to their coaching staff. On Monday, the 49ers announced the hiring of Brant Boyer as the team’s special teams coordinator. The move doomed any chance of Sorensen remaining in San Francisco.

One important detail has emerged related to Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer's new contract with the team.

The organization has hired Dave Borgonzi as linebackers coach, Aaron Whitecotton as defensive line coach and Andre Curtis as defensive passing game coordinator, the first assistants named to Schottenheimer's first staff as head coach.
