After a semifinal elimination during the College Football Playoffs, former Penn State defensive coordinator Tom Allen decided to sign with the Clemson Tigers ahead of the 2025 campaign.

Still, for the 54-year-old Allen, the decision ultimately came down to what was best for his family, specifically his wife, Tracy. By joining the Tigers’ staff, the Allens are now within a short drive of their two grown daughters, Brittany and Hannah, who live in South and North Carolina, respectively, with their own growing families.

Tom Allen is Clemson’s defensive coordinator because he runs a unit that fits what Dabo Swinney was looking for. Swinney was asked what schematically led him to Allen in the hiring process during their introductory press conference.
