Walmart is adding tens of thousands of pre-owned luxury handbags, jewelry and watches to its marketplace through a partnership with resale platform Rebag.

Walmart seems to have been paying close attention to all the hubbub about its so-called "Walmart Birkin" or "Wirkin"—the under-$80 Hermès imitator that skyrocketed to viral fame after it was tracked down by TikTokers this winter. The mega-retailer is responding not by dealing in more dupes, but helping shoppers get closer to the real things.

Shoppers took to Instagram and TikTok to rave about the bag. It quickly sold out online through a Walmart marketplace seller before disappearing from the retailer’s website altogether. The term ‘Walmart Birkin dupe’ has since become a trending search term on Google.

Hermès Birkin bags are internationally recognized as a status symbol. The brand markets the bag through its exclusivity, as it can’t be purchased through a standard retail experience. Birkins are bestowed upon those Hermès deems worthy, in back rooms of the store. A sacred exchange between you and your sales associate.
