The death in Coconino County, which includes Flagstaff, was the first recorded death from pneumonic plague since 2007, local officials said.

One person in Flagstaff died from the plague, but the Arizona Public Health Association says there's no need to worry.

Pneumonic plague is both “the least common and most dangerous type of plague,” according to the Cleveland Clinic.

Officials said the resident died from pneumonic plague, a severe lung infection. The risk to the public remains low.
