Chicago White Sox pitcher Shane Smith is headed to the MLB All-Star Game for the first time in his career. Smith, who made his MLB debut earlier this season, has made 16 starts for the White Sox, striking out 74 batters in 79.1 innings while posting an ERA of 3.86 for the South Siders.

Smith is the first Rule 5 pitcher to be named an All-Star in MLB history. He’s also the first rookie White Sox hurler to head to the Midsummer Classic, and Chicago’s first rookie to do so since Jose Abrue in 2014.

The Rule 5 Draft pick is the Sox’ first rookie All-Star since Jose Abreu in 2014 and the team’s first-ever rookie pitcher to make the Midsummer Classic.
