Marco Rossi tied it in the third period, Matt Boldy scored the shootout winner and the Minnesota Wild rallied to beat the Washington Capitals 4-3 after Alex Ovechkin moved one step closer to breaking Wayne Gretzky’s NHL career goals record.

Matt Boldy scored in the second round of the shootout to lift the visiting Minnesota Wild to a 4-3 victory over the Washington Capitals on Thursday.

Alex Ovechkin has had a long history with Marc-Andre Fleury. The two played each other again on Thursday night.

Ryan Hartman scored for the first time in a month and a half and assisted on Rossi’s tying goal, and Yakov Trenin scored a sensational shorthanded goal — the fourth of his career and second with the Wild — when he stripped Lindgren of both the puck and his stick, then had the patience to score a backhanded wraparound goal for a Wild lead.
