Nintendo has never utilized a "2" in any of its hardware launches, making the successor to the Switch a first of its kind. While this may seem like nothing more than an aesthetic choice, especially when the Wii U and SNES acted as successors to their respective console lines, it's a way bigger deal when you consider what that means for the future.

However, we may have an idea of some of the third-party support Nintendo will see at launch. A new rumor suggests several high-profile games will be part of the Switch 2's launch window. This includes several games from Microsoft, which is reportedly moving away from having its first-party games exclusive to Xbox.

Though Nintendo has a history of discontinuing its older consoles without missing a beat, there's reason to believe this won't happen with the Switch.

Nintendo may have officially unveiled the Nintendo Switch 2 last week, but not everything was revealed during that announcement. While we know the new console is coming at some point in 2025, we still don't know when.
